Dear Substack,
I am currently sitting at home, watching Lorraine (the chat show on ITV), reminiscing on how ITV has been a big part of my life. There’s me, being boring - watching chat shows and interesting tv programmes and films - like everyone else.. but there is something else that I want to tell you. That not many know, even those close to me.
My mother, who I still live with, worked at ITV Wales News, in Cardiff - now Cardiff Bay, for over 35 years. She is retired now. She introduced me to the media, broadcasting and the news. Her stories from the newsroom were always fascinating to hear.
I have also visited her work/office - at ITV News, Wales in the old studios, at CulverHouse Cross (Cardiff), and the newer studios, in Cardiff Bay. I’ve met a few of the presenters, cameramen and other people she worked with, as well as having a look at the newsdesk and cameras they use to film the news every night.
I have had a wander around the studios and heard stories from the people who work there. I also did one day’s work experience - which was an enlightening experience.
Interesting Story: I had an ITV Wales cameraman, my mother knew, take me to my theory driving test, back in 2010. We had a quick stop off on the way to film the Italian rugby team interview in Cardiff, for the 6 Nations game against Wales.
As you can imagine, ITV will always have a place in my heart.
Happy 70th ITV
From,
